GSU HISTORY
Green Side Up Landscaping was founded in 2004 by Craig Attkisson, shortly after he earned degrees in Turfgrass Management and Horticulture and completed a brief tenure in the golf course industry. With savings accumulated over 21 years, Craig invested everything in a single weekend to purchase the equipment needed to launch the business. In its early days, he wore every hat—handling sales, service, and operations—before recognizing that growth would require a strong team.
To help take the company to the next level, Craig invited his former golf course supervisor, Bill Gallagher, to join as a partner. Bill brought valuable people management experience and also held a degree in Turfgrass Management. With both Craig and Bill aligned in vision and work ethic, the company began to gain traction. The following year, Bill’s twin brother, Jim Gallagher—also a turfgrass professional with landscaping experience—joined the leadership team and launched Green Side Up’s Williamsburg branch.
Today, with two state-of-the-art facilities, Green Side Up is strategically positioned to deliver faster, more reliable service across our regions.
