What to Expect
Think of topdressing as a nutrient boost for your entire lawn. By spreading a thin layer of sand or compost-enriched soil over the surface, we’re improving the soil beneath your grass—boosting drainage, reducing thatch, and helping new growth thrive. Whether you’re trying to fix bare spots, smooth out a bumpy yard, or give your turf a little extra love, topdressing is one of the best ways to create a stronger, greener lawn without a full renovation.
Topdressing pricing depends on lawn size, material type, and any additional services like aeration or seeding. Not sure where your property might fall? Use our quote builder below to get a ballpark estimate before you book a visit.

The best time for topdressing it usually from mid-July through mid-September, depending on your grass type. It should be completed in the summer for warm-season grass and just before aeration and overseeding for cool-season grass.
We apply mason sand for warm-season grasses and a 50/50 compost soil mix for cool-season grasses. Our process is designed to promote root development and improve soil structure without smothering your grass.
On average, we apply a quarter inch of material, which can help level mild surface irregularities. For severe grading issues, we may recommend additional services like light grading or soil amendments.
You’ll start to see improvements in density and color within a few weeks. You can help speed up the process with seeding cool-season grass or aeration for warm-season grass.
We’ll provide care instructions based on your service. In most cases, regular mowing can resume after a few days, and watering should be consistent during the first few weeks.
