Smart Design for Suburban Living
Chesterfield County stretches from the established neighborhoods of Bon Air and Midlothian out to the newer communities along Hull Street Road and the Brandermill area near Swift Creek Reservoir. GSU has been maintaining and building landscapes across the county since 2004 — from townhome HOAs to custom estates off Robious Road. What Makes GSU the Best Choice?
Reliable Crews
You’ve probably been burned before by a landscaper who stopped showing up, who sent a different crew every week, or who left your property looking worse than when they arrived. We built our operation specifically to avoid all three. The same crew, on a predictable schedule, leaving the property cleaner than they found it.
Scientific Expertise
Most landscaping advice is folklore — what someone’s father did, what worked once on a different property, what the guy at the nursery said. Our leadership holds degrees in horticulture, turf management, and agronomy, which means our recommendations are grounded in how plants and soil actually behave. You get answers based on evidence, not tradition.
Personalized Service
Working with us means knowing exactly who to call when something needs attention. Your point of contact knows your property, your preferences, and your project history. No re-explaining the layout of your backyard. No wondering if your message got to the right person. Just a direct line to someone who already has the context.

Frequently Asked Questions
We work throughout the populated areas of Chesterfield, including Midlothian, Bon Air, Brandermill, Woodlake, Hallsley, and the neighborhoods along Robious Road, Hull Street Road, and Route 288. If your address falls outside our regular routes, let us know and we’ll let you know honestly whether we can serve you well or whether a closer competitor would be a better fit.
Yes, though our primary focus is on individual residential properties rather than full HOA contracts. If you’re a homeowner in a community where the HOA handles common areas but you’re responsible for your own yard — common in places like Brandermill, Woodlake, and many newer Hull Street developments — we can absolutely take that on. For full HOA contracts, reach out and we’ll talk through whether we’re the right fit.
A lot of Chesterfield homes, particularly in newer developments off Hull Street and out toward Moseley, were finished by builders with the bare minimum landscape package. Builder-grade sod, a few foundation shrubs, and not much else. We do a significant amount of work helping new homeowners turn that starter landscape into something that actually fits the house, including soil correction (often necessary after construction compacts everything) and replacing failing builder-installed plantings with species that will actually thrive long-term.
You can start anytime, but the easiest entry points are early spring (before the growing season ramps up) and early fall (when we’re scheduling for leaf cleanup, aeration, and overseeding). If you’re catching us mid-summer, we can usually still get you on the schedule, but transitioning a neglected lawn back to good condition takes time — it’s not an instant turnaround.
We aim for consistency. For maintenance accounts, you’ll typically see the same crew week after week, which means they learn your property — where the irrigation heads are, which beds need extra attention, which gate the dog uses. You’ll also have a single point of contact for anything that comes up between visits, so you’re never starting from zero when a question comes up.
Once you sign, you’re assigned a single point of contact who handles your property from that day forward. No phone tag, no being routed through a call center, no wondering who’s in charge. You’ll also get automatic service reports after each visit, so you always know what was done and when, even when you’re not home to see the crew on-site.
Founded in 2004, GSU was created by a local team with a deep background in the science of landscaping and a rich history of working with the tools of the trade. Our goal is to provide the best landscaping and lawn care services in the Richmond and Williamsburg communities.
