This is my first time submitting an online review and for good reason. I want to say that working with Green Side Up has been amazing. I have had the chance to get to know the owners and they sincerely care about doing the right things for their customers. Their leadership and high level of expectations flows through the entire company including those on the ground doing the hard work. In my case I have been blessed by working with Mike, Billy, Josh and Dro. They are all wonderful people who care about every single detail of my yard (which extends over 8 acres). They never miss a beat, are always on time, and make me feel like I’m the only home they take care of. They are also incredibly kind, always smiling, always friendly and always giving 100%. Highly recommend GSU for any landscape project. Our new construction home was just a dirt backyard with some seed down that never took.
Preston and the rest of the team came up with a plan to fix drainage, add grass, beds, and shrubs while still fitting within our budget. As you can see from the before and after photos I added, it made a huge difference and now we have a backyard we actually enjoy.
We liked their work so much we’re already talking to them again about adding a couple of trees to the backyard as well.

Absolutely phenomenal experience working with Greens Up landscaping. This is our second time working with them and I’ve been blown away by the communication, professionalism, advice on projects, and their ability to match quality looks with practical fixes (runoff protection/etc.). I would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for a landscaping project!

Very happy with GSU landscaping. The design process was really engaging and Preston picked out the perfect plants and layout for us. We went through a lot of discussion and revisions, which I appreciated because in general it's not cheap to get a landscaping project done. It took a little longer to get to the project than I hoped but that was due to rain and demand, so no big deal. Once we got to the execution Ivan and his team finished in just one 8 hour day. You can see from the pictures how nice everything looked. We had to make a few adjustments at the end due to availability of some plants, but Ivan worked through that with me without any issues. Can't wait for the next project.

Ivan, Deris Mejia Sosa and the crew completed a walkway in our backyard flower bed that is nothing short of outstanding. Thank you our GSU crew!
4/21/25 Update - Another 10! Stripped our side yard, (Invasion of neighbor’s unkept yard). Installed a custom 14” deep, custom ordered border to 1” above dirt level. And sodded. These folks care about every job they have done for us and their reputation. You get what you pay for.
Our third time out with GSU in a little over a years. This time replanting the front yard after clearing an overgrown flower bed in November 2021. Ivan and the GSU crew were their usual fantastic selves. On time and very detailed.
The GSU process, through their web site, takes all the guesswork out of the process. Scheduling an appointment was easy. Our design consultant was helpful in suggesting the plants to select.
We give them a solid "10".
Update, January 2024. Mulching was perfect. Dominic and crew exceeded our expectations. Another 10! Thank you.

GSU did a phenomenal job removing an existing concrete sidewalk for us. They graded our walkway, put down clay pavers instead of concrete, and added some built-in lighting. We love the finished work. They were professional and easy to work with. The people who did the work on site were courteous, very hard working, and they were very respectful of our neighbors (which was important since our project was right up to our property line). They also went the extra mile to leave our yard as they found it. We’d highly recommend GSU for all your hardscaping needs!

We found Green Side Up Landscaping through a Google search and were impressed by their reviews on Google and Yelp. After scheduling an initial estimate, Bill came to our home and walked us through a thoughtful design that prioritized a large play area for our kids. He provided a detailed plan for maintaining the landscape and suggested valuable additions, like proper drainage and erosion mitigation around our foundation.
Bill's estimate was cost-effective compared to other companies we consulted, and work began just a week after we put down our deposit. His team promptly and safely removed five large trees from our property and ground the stumps and roots for complete removal. They also installed irrigation for our half-acre lot and seeded the area to ensure grass growth, even in the semi-shaded spots.
The entire project was incredibly fast, budget-friendly, and exactly what we envisioned. Communication from Green Side Up was consistent, keeping us informed throughout the process. They even accommodated a couple of additional side projects I requested on the spot and provided estimates for that extra work without hesitation.
Overall, I was extremely impressed with the Green Side Up team and highly recommend them to anyone in the Richmond area looking for landscaping services!

When we moved into our house, the yard had not been maintained for quite some time. In the front of our house, there were nandina that had spread like wildfire. There was a tree stump that had been to about 3-4 feet from the ground and branches had started growing from it. There was another tree that look like it came from a sapling and let grow as it pleased. I took out some holly bushes, but it still needed a lot of work. We hired GSU, they came out, removed everything, planted some plants, and laid sod. It looked amazing!!
When they were grinding the stumps, they accidentally hit the cover to our water meter. However, this was not their fault because whoever marked the utilities did not mark the water meter. They even called the utility company, or whoever gives the ok to grind stumps/dig/etc, and they said everything had been marked and they could proceed. The city came out to replace the water meter cover and I guess they had to dig up whatever was around the water meter and install a new one. When doing this, they did not care what it looked like before or after. They dug up our new sod, placed the new water meter cover, then threw dirt around it. I sent GSU a message with pictures and they came out the next day to fix it. They didn't charge me anything additional. Because of their customer service and quality of work, they have a lifelong customer. I highly recommend using GSU for all your landscape needs.

*Required Services: All services in the required sections are part of our baseline packages that GSU Landscaping offers. We do not offer maintenance agreements that do not have the required services, period.
**Optional Services: These services can be added to any maintenance agreement but are not required. Please note that it is ALWAYS cheaper to include services in the contract versus adding services outside of the contract in the future.
***We only maintain properties that are on a turf fertilization program. This program does not need to be provided in our contract, but must be with a turf fertilization vendor.
