Cameron booked a consultation through the website, and Preston walked the property to find out why nothing would grow. The problems fed each other. Water ran across the yard instead of draining off it, the soil couldn’t hold seed, and erosion carried off each new attempt at a lawn.

Cameron collected three quotes. Green Side Up’s wasn’t the lowest, but the online reviews and the way Preston handled the consultation made the choice easy.

Luis, the install supervisor, led the crew through a full backyard rebuild:

• Regraded the entire backyard
• Installed drainage piping and a French drain to collect runoff
• Irrigated the full backyard
• Top dressed with topsoil, then aerated and overseeded
• Laid new sod
• Added decorative rock around the garden beds and as borders in the yard
• Trimmed trees and removed stumps

The backyard doubles as the home’s septic drainfield, which changes how every trench gets dug. Before the work started, the crew studied the as-built drawings from Cameron’s septic contractor and routed the sprinkler lines around the drainfield’s sensitive areas.

Underground utilities got the same care. Between the regrade, the drainage lines, and the irrigation, the project called for a lot of digging, and the crew didn’t hit a single line. That included the landscape lighting wire, which no one had marked or located.
